About this app

Need to know how many characters or words your text contains? Type, paste or open a text file and see the counts as you write.

Check characters with and without spaces, words and lines. Select a passage to measure just that section, or set a character or word limit to see how much room is left. Turn on tracking for popular fields to get a warning directly below your text when you go over.

Compare your text with reference limits for Instagram, X, YouTube, LinkedIn and Google Ads. The word cloud and frequency table help you spot repetition and see which words appear most often.

Your text stays in your browser for counting. Open UTF-8 text files up to 2 MB by choosing or dragging a file. After the app has loaded its offline resources, you can keep counting without an internet connection.

Each section separated by an explicit line break counts as a line. Wrapping caused by screen width does not add another line.

Why might another platform show a different count?

Services can apply different rules to emojis, special characters and links. Popular limits are a reference; check your text in the destination field.

Is my text sent to a server?
